Today is National Chilli Day - Chilli is said to have originated from Texas. The people in Texas in the early 1800’s used to cook up a meal like what we today call stew with the main ingredients being beef and peppers. As the years went on different variations of this meal were created and Chilli became a meal known by all North America. It is a great comfort meal for those cold winter days to help warm you up.

This week the activity packages contain birthday themed activity sheets such as reading comprehension, word search, crosswords, math, colouring and much more. It's a messy morning out there, be careful if you are out walking. The streets are still a little slushy but temperatures are supposed to rise this afternoon.
Don't forget to wear pink tomorrow to show your support for anti-bullying. Something to think about.
Today is the 22nd day of the month. Ever wonder how many times the 22nd falls on a Monday. Well this year it will happen 3 times, (in February, in March and in November), but last year it only happened once. The 22nd was on a Monday back in June and next year there will only be one and that will be in August. Here is an interesting fact about today - It is Pluto Day - Pluto was discovered in 1930, it would take 9.5 years to travel to Pluto. It takes our planet Earth 1 year to travel around the Sun. It takes Pluto 248 years to travel around the Sun. It would be very cold on Pluto as it is the farthest planet from the Sun. Pluto is so small that it is now considered to be a dwarf planet.
The theme to this week’s activity package that will be going out tomorrow is mail. Today at the Center, we are baking Molasses cookies for break time.
Each Friday we send out a themed activity package to our participants in the Saint John city limits who wish to receive them.
The package theme for this week is Chinese New Year. Yesterday was Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil seen his shadow and indicates we may have 6 more weeks of winter.
Today at the center, the valentine cookies decorative kits are being made. Betty-Anne and Jen are working on sorting and laundering clothing donations in Preparation for our clothing Boutique we hope to open in the near future. keep up the great work ladies. It is Get Up Day. It’s a day to give hope to others by sharing your stories about how you failed at something but did not give up. Tell others how you kept trying to do better. We can apply this in our daily lives especially now during these strange times with Covid 19. If we as a community keep doing better our lives will get closer and closer to the normal, we all used to know. Let’s keep the hope together and keep getting up when we fall down. |
